Bulgarian cuisine is one of the tastiest in Europe.  Food is still cooked with fresh, naturally grown ingredients and combines the wonderfully rich Ottoman influence with a peasant cooking style that uses flavour-packed vegetables and herbs...

... start with a salad of fresh tomatoes and home-made sheep's cheese and follow up with a slow-baked stew in a clay pot.

 

For meat lovers the main dishes are chicken, pork and lamb-based - typically hearty, simple and tasty.  Grilled meats are popular and include 'kyufteta' (spicy meat balls), and 'kebapcheta' (elongated meat balls).

 

There are plenty of non-meat dishes too...'Chushki byurek' - peppers stuffed with cheese and herbs and fried in breadcrumbs - are a great entr?e or a meal in a moment.

In Bansko, the plentiful local taverns with unique charm and style offer local Cuisine and a good selection of Bulgarian wines at an extremely reasonable price. Live music is even available at some venues.

A wide range of local cafes serve a variety of refreshments throughout the day whilst in the evening bars and night clubs are without imposed closing times and usually stay open until the early hours of the morning.
