About Bansko
Offering fantastic skiing from mid December to mid April and a wealth of activities during the summer months, Bansko truly is a year round destination.  Situated at the foot of the Pirin mountain range on the southern edge of a circular plain that is surrounded on all sides by mountains - Pirin, Rila and the Rhodopes - Bansko offers some spectacular views and is an ideal starting point for all kinds of excursions in summer and for skiing in winter.

Bansko Bell TowerA climatic mountain resort with a short hot summer and long mild winter, Bansko is known as an alpine skiing, hiking and climbing centre, but it combines its natural beauty and outdoor opportunities with the atmosphere of an ancient Bulgarian town from the 10th century, and boasts a wealth of culture and history, as well as traditional taverna-style cuisine and colourful folklore. The alpine character of the Pirin Mountains, and abundant snow falls providing a constant winter snow cover, create excellent skiing conditions for all types of skiers and experts can enjoy some of the country's best downhill skiing at the nearby resort of Shiligarnika.

Bansko is not only a ski resort, it is host to the traditional summer Jazz Festival, Bulgarian Folk Festival and numerous other cultural events. The town comprises ancient cultural monuments and charming narrow cobbled streets with fortified and artistically decorated stone houses. It is home to several museums and permanent ethnographic exhibitions and The Holy Trinity Church with its 30m high bell tower boasts splendid murals and wood carvings.

The town is nestled between the Pirin, Rila and Rhodope Mountains in the south-west of Bulgaria near to the border with Greece. It is situated in the foothills of the Pirin Mountains forming the gateway to The Pirin National Park, an area of natural beauty cited in the World Natural Heritage list. To say that this area is spectacularly beautiful would simply not do it justice. The region comprises lush valleys, stunning landscapes, a wide variety of plant and animal life and rising from all this natural beauty are the magnificent Pirin mountains.

As a resort it combines great skiing, beautiful landscapes and historical points of interest as well as attracting visitors throughout the year to its cultural events and plentiful mountain activities.
